Our Department's History
In the anticipated celebration of the Newton Police Department's Centennial Anniversary on June 1, 2010, Chief John Tomasula is asking for assistance from the public in gathering information about past police officers and gathering any memorabilia from the Department's rich history.
A list of officers who have served for the Department has been started but is not yet complete. Unfortunately, records detailing past officers service dates and the like have been lost, destroyed or are no longer available. Some articles of clothing, patches, badges, photographs and newspaper articles have already been donated by retired officers, family members and friends.
Here's a list of things we're looking for:
- Old photographs
- Department Memorabilia
- Names and service dates of officers
- Department Patches
- Historical Records
- Locations of old police stations
- Historical events in department history
Chief Tomasula would like to honor the service of past and present police officers by engraving their names and service dates on a plaque and display any other historic articles for public viewing.
